Terms
Be honest, be kind, be who you say you are, and do not use this place to get at anybody. Everything below follows from that.
Who can be here
You have to be 18 or older. If you want a dating profile you also have to be single: never married, divorced, or widowed. Separated members are welcome, on the marriage side, and we explain why.
What this is, and what it is not
It is a place to meet people and to work on a marriage. It is not counselling, it is not therapy, and it is not medical or legal advice. Nothing written here or by anybody in the forum is a substitute for a professional who knows your situation.
It is not an emergency service. If you are in danger, call 911. Nobody here is watching in real time and we cannot get to you.
The rules
- Be who you say you are. One account, your own photographs, your real situation.
- Do not post about somebody in a way that identifies them. If a member has behaved badly, report them rather than writing about them where everybody can read it. We can act on a report. We cannot fairly judge an argument staged in public.
- Do not try to arrange private contact around the forum. The forum has no messaging, so posting a phone number, an email address or a handle there is not allowed. Software checks forum posts for it and a person looks at what it finds. A private conversation on the dating side is the other case entirely: swapping numbers there is what it is for, and nothing scans it.
- Nothing sexual involving anybody under 18, ever, in any form. This one ends the account and goes to the authorities the same day.
- No harassment, no threats, no pressure, and no contacting somebody who has blocked you.
Reporting, and what we do
Any member can report anything. Reports go to James, who is responsible for moderation, and every report gets read and answered even when the answer is that we are not going to act.
If a report concerns one of us or somebody connected to us, we will tell you that when you report it, and you are free to take it to the police, to child protection, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner or wherever else fits, instead of or as well as telling us. We would rather say that plainly than have you find out later.
We can remove a post, close an account, or refuse to let somebody back. We will say why unless saying why would put somebody at risk.
Anonymity in the forum, and where it stops
You post under a handle. No other member sees who you are. We do, because you have an account with us.
There are three situations where that changes, and it is fairer to tell you now than when it happens. If we believe a child is at risk we are required by Saskatchewan law to report it, and that duty falls on every person, not only on professionals. If somebody is in credible danger from an identifiable person, we will act. And material involving the sexual abuse of children is reported and preserved as the law requires. Outside those three, what you write stays between you, the room, and us.
Money
The site is not open yet and nobody is being charged. When it opens it is a paid membership, and these hold from the first day:
- An email seven days before any renewal, every time.
- One click to cancel, with no phone call and no retention offer.
- A refund if you cancel within 48 hours and have not used it.
If we get something wrong
We will fix it, and if we cannot fix it we will refund you. What we cannot do is promise that the site is always up, that you will meet somebody, or that another member is who they claim to be. We check what we reasonably can and we are two people, not a background-check company. Use the same judgement you would use meeting anybody new.
Who you are dealing with
Adventist Relationships is run by James Meyer, as a sole proprietorship, from 21-708 RR7 LCD Main, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7K 1N2, Canada. When these terms say we, that is who it means. If that changes, so does this page.
Housekeeping
These terms are governed by the laws of Saskatchewan. If we change them we will say so on this page and, when the change matters, by email. You can close your account whenever you like, and the privacy page explains what happens to your information when you do.
